  • Joseph Richardson Rumrill was the son of Joseph Richardson Rumrill Sr. & Mehitable Carver.
  •  

  • He was born in Nov 1829 in New Bedford, and he died 23 Feb 1899 in New Bedford.

  • He married Caroline Frances Foster 16 May 1855 in New Bedford.

  • Joseph enlisted in as a private in Company C, 3rd Cavalry Regiment of Massachusetts on 4 Sep 1862.

  • He was discharged 20 May 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. 

  • He was a painter in private life.

  • Caroline Frances Foster was the daughter of James Foster & Susan Bunker.

  • She was also the granddaughter of the whaling ship captain Ebenezer Lathrop Foster.
  •  
  • She was born 20 Sep 1837 in New Bedford, and she died 26 Jun 1906 also in New Bedford.
  •  
  • She and her husband’s family are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, in New Bedford, in Lot 54, Section Q.

  • Joseph & Caroline had two sons: Joseph Adams Rumrill & Herbert Elmer Rumrill.
