1906 New Bedford - Fairhaven Bridge
Crossing The Acushnet River
In the picture you can see the buildings and the scenery around the bridge.
If you compare it to what we see today you will notice that there has been some drastic change to the area.
This is the steel structure similar to what the bridge looked like in 2010.
The railings are replaced with sturdier rails after a car with young girls in it drove through the rail and
crashed into the river. The girls all drowned.
There have been changes made to the mechanism that turns the bridge to open it for boat traffic.
