1911 A Ten Year Old Boy Selling Newspapers
New Bedford
In this contrast the anonymous news boy has no shoes and appears to be the typical street urchin, whilst the
gentleman buying the newspaper appears to be exceptionally well dressed and has the look of a person who is well to do.
Street sellers like the boy pictured here were a part of the underage child labor problem plaguing poorer families.
Note the clothes that the woman is wearing. That was the conservative dress of the day.
The man in the left is wearing a fedora while the older man buying a newspaper is wearing the older style skimmer.
