This is the location of the Fifth Street School.

On May 11, 1861, this became the first school in the nation to fly the flag every day.

It was on the south-west corner of Russell and Fifth Street (Now called Pleasant Street). Antonio Francisco Ramos nicknamed "Sunshine" was a patriot who dedicated part of his life to raising the American Flag at the Fifth Street School.

The plaques and signs below are all on the Corner of Russell and Pleasant Streets in New Bedford, Ma.
The site today is a rundown parking lot, but it's history is rich.
