Centre Street In The Historic Area At A Low Point
New Bedford
This image represents a low point in the oldest part of the city as far as upkeep and usage of buildings.
Many were abandoned and fell into disuse resulting in costly renovations.
The building in the picture lately called the Kaller Building and owned by Neil Weiss was renovated by R. P. Valois and Co. and is now a gem in the old historic area.
R. P. Valois and Co. also renovated the building to it's left known as the D.L. Hathaway Building.
Today the area is part of a National Park.
It is very well kept and enjoying a resurgence of business where upscale cafes and bars, gift shops and art stores replace run down buildings that housed steam fitters, warehouses and wholesale beef dealers etc. Also see a 1973 picture of Centre Street
