St. Anthony church was a french speaking parish built in the north end of the city. For the six months prior to the new church opening the North Union Hall allowed the parish to use the building as the location of it's first offices.
Services were held here before the first church was built
It was the second french speaking (predominantly French-Canadian) parish in New Bedford after Sacred Heart church on Summer and Robeson streets proved to be too far for many of the French speaking residents of the north end of New Bedford. |
